Hand Embroidery Experiments

I wanted to see if some different hand embroidery stitches would be suitable over layers of transparent painted organza with polyester fibres and metallic fabrics.

I have a real fondness for french knots and their size can be varied by the number of times the thread is wrapped around the needle. I particularly like to work small groups of french knots; they are very like clusters of blossoms. Seed stitch is another stitch I really like especially when it’s size is altered from a tiny dot to a large running stitch.

I have also included some french knots which have been given a ‘tail’. It’s really great to play around with the construction of stitches to broaden their potential and develop their character for your purposes.

My inspiration comes from often subtle qualities found in nature, as well as aspects of fairytale and psychospirituality.
